Day 3 - We decided to go to Chitkul on this day. Chitkul is the last village before we reach the Indo-Tibetan border. The drive to Chitkul is beautiful. We stopped at many places enroute Chitkul for snaps ...
Tips - At Chitkul village we met a group of guides who told us that the Nagasthi trek was 80 kms long !!! Don't fall for this. The trek takes just 1.5 hrs if you do it in a relaxed manner ( one way ) and is not tough at all.

Scenic Route to Chitkul |
At one point we crossed a stream which had overflowed on the road ( the first of our journey ). We were lucky we chose this day to visit this village. The next day another group could not traverse this route since the stream had swollen and vehicles could not cross it.

From the village there is a short trek to Nagasthi - the border post beyond which there is a Tibetan village. There is a board here warning civilians not to cross it.
There are 2 routes from Chitkul to Nagasthi. One meanders near the river and the other follows the fields at a height on the hillside. Both join at one point ( if you use the river route - there is a short ascent to join the hill side route).

Meandering close to the river enroute Nagasthi |
We first took the river route. There is actually nothing at the end of the trek other than the warning sign and a view of the Tibetan village. Still the hike itself is scenic with a couple of stream crossings. One was free flow of water across rocks and the other was wired rocks. Found it surprising that crossing the rocks wired together were not easy as they looked !!
We had a picnic at the border post. And then took the route that is adjacent to the fields on our way back.
